If you have paid the requisite number of quarters or qualify through Railroad retirement or other qualifying conditions Medicare Part A is free. It is the part of Medicare that covers hospital care and many of its expenses.

What does Part A Coverage include?

  • Inpatient care in a hospital including medications used during hospitalization.
  • killed nursing facility care generally for rehabilitation.
  • Nursing home care in a skilled nursing facility but not custodial or long-term care.

  • Home health care on an intermittent basis as well as therapies like PT, OT and speech.

Hospitalization limits and costs?

The bulleted list below refers to a benefit period which begins with your admission and ends when you have not gotten any inpatient care for 60 days.

  • $1,408 deductible for each benefit period.
  • Days 1–60: $0 coinsurance for each benefit period.
  • Days 61–90: $352 coinsurance per day of each benefit period.
  • Days 91 and beyond: $704 coinsurance per each "lifetime reserve day" after day 90 for each benefit period (up to 60 days over your lifetime).
  • Beyond lifetime reserve days : all costs.
